This is what I spent 5 hours drawing the previous day.
Brief History:
Mechanical, though previously named Boran, led the life of any normal dragon. It wasn’t until later in his life when he had an incident that cost him his life. One of the great sand worms of the deserted area of the Sonbarie Kingdom had decided to make him a snack when he had stopped at an oasis to drink. Sandworms are over 100 feet long and can range anywhere from twenty to 40 feet in thickness. Mechanical, stands a solid 14 feet in height, no match for a 15 to 20 foot wide mouth filled with 3 foot long teeth. The battle, however short it was, was hidden from view by the large sand cloud that covered the area after the worm had broken ground cover.
His right wing completely ripped apart leaving nothing but a stump. Both eyes had been completely ruined and his body looked like shredded meat. It was rumored, as only Mechanical can say truth, that he had bonded with a human female, and as he lay there dying she had come to his aid. For three days, Mechanical lay bleeding into the sand. It was a miracle he survived that long. She found him, brought him back to Heaven’s Gates where a local engineer took great interest. Mechanical remained intact, for the most part. A multitude of body parts had to be reconstructed, broken bone was replaced with obsidium (a play of the word from obsidian, basically the same thing) metal. His left wing, though with torn membrane, was pretty much unharmed, so the engineer left it. Many organs were damaged, those he fixed or replaced with his experimental parts.
Mechanical lives still, although he is referred to many other dragons as the Metal One or the Artificial One due to his constructed body. It’s said he is still in contact with the girl, still loves her, but the engineer… well… let’s say upon waking up writhing in pain, the man met a pretty horrible fate. Mechanical still breathes, eats, and is still able to breathe fire like any normal dragon. The only difference is that now he suffers every day from pain. He doesn’t often smile, let alone look anywhere near happy and his attitude has a low fuse. He’s harder to kill now, his organs protected by thick metal casing. As far as flying goes, he still can, but not for too long, as his new, heavier weight prevents any long distant flying or any acrobatic moves even though his wings had been reinforced with ‘muscle’ it’s still a difficult process. His scars are repaired and hidden, but they will never heal.
