A dark figure slowly made it was out upon and empty white room, the dark figure moved much like a robot. The figure stood still never moving.

The figure slowly scanned the area. "Will the student/students please enter the room."

A singular lamp swung, briefly illuminating the darkness which appeared to flow from the robotic figure. Almost, impossibly, filling the white room with a rippling shadow. Staring intently at the form, Leo shivered in response to a lingering, pungent, sterile odor which often haunts the halls of hospitals. A step was made towards the figure, stepping into a flood of artificial light.

The robot stood still looking at the man. A large hole opened up in the floor to the left of Leo, several weapons would be lying upon the of a table that rose up from the hole. Two katanas, a couple of daggers, a M9 pistol, an M16 assault rifle, and a Mp5 sub machine gun. The robot pointed towards the weapons before speaking. "Please select what you would like to be trained in, you can be an swordsman excelling in most physical areas, or you can be a sharp shooter, excelling in aim and stealth." "However this is all depending on how your training goes, I am programmed to make you well trained in one of these two areas, please note that I cannot teach you in both, so this will determine which path you wish to go."

Leo jumped as the table unexpectedly rose from the white tiles. It would have been wise to reach for the table and choose, as the metallic voice had commanded. However, his sense of fear clenched the muscles of his legs, contract, relax, almost as mechanically as the figure itself. His legs brought him around the robot. His skeleton ignored his brain, as he touched the metal surface of the figure, perhaps out of fear. Perhaps a sense of skepticism bubbled up from his stomach. Leo's legs took him a few steps backward to analyze the figure once more.

The robot stood still before speaking once more in a more commanding tone. "Please select a weapon from the following." It was almost as if the robot could only operate one step at a time.

His legs brought him further from the figure as his brain finally took hold. He points silently with a pale, shaking hand to the daggers sitting upon the table, while consistently fixing his gaze firmly on the robot.

The robot nodded. "As you wish." The daggers vanished and soon reformed in a pouch on Leo's side. The room began shaking as the roof seemed to fall leaving a space of darkness overhead, the darkness soon turned into a morning sky as the white tiles that made the floor was replaced with Dirt and grass, trees shot up all around the two leaving them unharmed in the middle of a large clearing. "Battle ground created." A blade was sent straight through the robot's center as it began smoking and sparking, the blade was pulled out and a boot came slamming into the right side of the robot as it was sent rolling across the field and into a tree where it detonated. A man stood there cleaning the oil off of his blade as he spoke. "Man I know how you feel kid robots give me the creeps." A man who appeared to be in his twenties, standing at a height of 6"3' with blonde hair and brown eyes looked over at Leo before bringing the blade to rest upon his right shoulder. "The names Apaichi...it's a pleasure to meet cha." He gave a friendly smile.

The leather pouch lightly stung his fingers as he held it, similarly to the slight bite of an object after moving at high speeds. Leo shook in response to the vibrations of the roof and curled up, arms over head to protect himself from the collapsing roof. When the danger of the shaking room subsided, he released his body from the tight, protected position, and looked up to see the large clearing. He leaped slightly at the unexpected blade, though tried to remain as solid as possible to create an aura of strength and confidence. Leo looked up at the new man who, although only being a bit taller, seemed to tower high over him. He tilted his head slightly at the kind face, and responded with a shy smile.

The man tilted his head slightly back at Leo. "I know your new but when meeting someone it is common curtosy to give your name, don't worry though that's lesson number one. "The laughed lightly giving off a friendly aura." "Allow me to explain what is going on, the area you are in is a simulator room, the man removed a dagger and sent it directly into one of the trees however, this room is unique, each object her will feel very real to you and that is because they are solid objects rather then simple visual effects." Apaichi began walking around the area. "Even I am not allowed to leave this room without vanishing, I once was a fighter of the land known as War however I died sometime ago." "Don't worry though it was mainly due to being heavily outnumbered it was the only battle I ever lost of course...once is all it takes when fighting an enemy."
He made his way back to the center of the clearing. "My purpose in being here is to teach you how to fight well and defend yourself against opponents, by the time I am done with you, you will be able to move at unimaginable speeds, kill without hesitation and be a master swordsman, despite all of these perks the ones you meet in War will be able to fight you off aswell, whether you win or lose is only a question of who is stronger, experience helps but will not decide the outcome of the battle." "Or course you don't have to fight everyone, what you do with your skills is your choice, you can be a good guy or a bad guy." Apaichi smiled lightly. "Now lets start off with one last selection, please state your characters Name, race, weapons of choice, and abilities. ((Your race may be whatever you decide, a vampire, an elf demon, a cat demon, a werewolf, a slayer, a human, a shape shifter, an experiment several choices even more than what has been shown, being your own character is one of the best things about roleplaying, your power often comes with what you character is, shape shifters have the ability to change into nearly anything but this does not mean the acquire that creatures ability, The other are pretty self explanatory, all of these aside from Humans have the ability to use energy such as balls of energy or beams to shoot at opponents. Being a Slayer makes things a bit trickier War has only had two slayers that were able to fight the demons here and they became legends for it, ones name was Past, he was part of the original gang, and the other was his student and a very close friend of mine Named Luke.)) Apaichi continued once more, Your weapons will be your daggers of course and swords of your choice. ((You can choose many different times some use rapier's some use katanas, some using basic swords, some use scimitars, google swords if you cant decide and find a type that you like best. The main reason I'm doing this is to help you when you decide to make your character profile.))
So once more to clear everything up the following should be filled in how you see fit. Character name: Age: Gender: Race: Abilities/powers: Weapon/Weapons of choice:
((Also a Bio is normally made but you don't have to do that yet it's completely optional it just let's us know a little bit about your characters past and such.))

Anyone have any advice on making a character? Never done this before. I'm not really one for the fighting type of writing so maybe I could make a more... I don't know. Maybe rogue-ish. Any ideas?

-echos- I'm not sure how a non-fighting type of character would really fit in here. It's even called "war" The group maybe could use a more intellectually based character who only fights rarely with a bow or dagger?

Find an idea you like. Find a skeleton to a character description, and then, using your idea, fill in that skeleton. This will help you flesh out that idea into a character, as well as perhaps answer questions about the character you had not thought about. Little details will add flare, always a plus. Rogue-like characters are not so unusual. Alternatively near-human or simply human characters still have their place, though those characters generally post less. I enjoy the idea of some thief in the night skulking about, I must say. Fighting, for me at least, isn't something that happens so often. When it does, especially recently, my characters in particular have been far more inclined to run away. What I am getting at, is that a character that doesn't really fight often, if at all still has a place in War. Even if it means being the sidekick of Stryker-pool.
At the bottom of my post is a link to a place called Charahub. It has a decent enough skeleton to use, if you want one.

Thank you, both of you! I'll definitely be trying out the "charahub". I just worry that my interactions may be kind of lame because as my real self, I'm pretty reserved and quiet. I tend to observe more than get involved. But I'll do my best to come up with an interesting addition.

You are not alone in that form of interaction with others in real life, trust me. From what I have seen in your writing, and in the way you are carefully approaching this all, I am sure you will do more than fine. Better than I. When you are ready, jump right in. The worst thing that can happen is you get bored of it all, which is alright.

((Note: This is all copied simply posting it here for personal reasons.)) 1. Plot : The sequence of events in a story
Exposition - Writing that provides information about: a) Setting b) Some main charaters c) Hint at conflict
Complication - Single event that begins the rising action
Rising Action - Events that lead up to the Climax
Climax - (AKA Turning Point/Crisis) Crucial moment when the hero's fate hangs in the balance
Falling Action - All events that follow the turning point
Resolutin - Outcome of the conflict (the end)
2. Conflict : A struggle between two opposing forces (Normally Protaganist vs. Antagonist)
Internal Conflict - Struggle within the Character's mind. There is only one type of Internal Conflict : Man vs. Self
External Conflict - Struggle between a character and an outside force There are 4 types of External Conflict: a)Man vs. Man b)Man vs. Nature c)Man vs. Society/Group d)Man vs. Technology/Machine
*Note : Type D won't appear much here... save maybe with Gnimish*
Protagonist - Main character, normally the "Good Guy" Antagonist - Character who opposes protagonist
3. Suspense : Quality that makes readers eager to know what happens next (to build interest).
4. Foreshadowing : The planting of clues that hint at what events will come later in the story.
5. Setting : Time and Place in which a narrative is set. The setting contains: a)Time b)Place c)Mood *Mood - Feeling, or atmosphere, created in a narrative.
6. Irony - Irony comes in three types: a) Verbal Irony : A discrepency between what is stated and what is meant. IE : "It's perfect fairness was obvious" (Referring to a Corrupted Court)
b)Irony of a Situation : A contrast between what is expected and what really happens. IE : A soldier catches an enemy scout off guard getting water, and spares him. Later on that soldier is killed by the very same scout.
c)Dramatic Irony : When ready knows something the character doesn't. IE: There was a tiger behind the right door, and the correct passage was behind the left door. The hero decided to take his chances with the right door.
7. Characterization - Personality a character displays also the means by which the auther displays that personality
Indirect Characterization - The author allows the reader to discover what the character is like through: a)The character's own actions and words b)Through the character's thoughts c)What other characters say about that character
Direct Characterization - When the author tells the reader directly what the character is like.
8. Types of Characters - There are two sets of characteristics for characters in stories. I call them "Shape" and "Dimension". A character can not be both parts of a set, but each character is one from each set.
The "Shape" set consists of: a) Static - A character who remains the same through the whole story. Keeps his views on something/everything.
b) Round - A character who undergoes a large change through the story. Changes his views on something/everything.
The "Dimension" set consists of: a) Flat - Character who has one side to its personality
b) Round - Character that has many sides or dimensions to its personality
9. Theme - Main idea in a work of literature.
10. Allusion - Reference to history, myth, music, figure from the bible, or any other work of literature.
11. Symbol - Something that has meaning in itself while at the same time represents something larger.
12. Point of View - (P.O.V. for short)The vantage point from which a story is told. There are three types of P.O.V.s used for story telling:
a)1st Person P.O.V. - When the narrator is one of the characters. Uses words like "I" and "We".
b)Third Person Limited - Outside narrator; can see into the heart and mind of one character
c)Omnicient - "All Knowing" narrator. ('omni' = all, 'scient' = knowledge); Outside narrator - can see into the heart and mind of all characters the-unforgiven Tactics to Enlongate your Posts
There are four simple ways to lengthen your post, all of which are simple. 1. Banter Lots of talking does lengthen a post, especially if you put spaces between phrases like so: I probably wrote: "Hello good sir," said Sacrial
"Hello ... elf," said the gaurd.
2. Physical Description Physical descriptions of your newly entering character, new rooms, and newly entering NPCs help to lengthen a post if it is long enough. You can go through great lengths of description. Like this post fragment I have here.
"All around the room, weapons were hung on the walls and laid into crates on display. There was a counter near the center of the room, and behind it stood a heavyset human eating a piece of bread like an animal. Upon the arrival of the three heros, he stopped eating and swallowed all that was in his mouth."
3. Inner Thoughts You are not omniscient, however, you do control each and every action and thought of your character (obviously). Somethings you want people to know what you are plotting for the thread ahead, or, if you have a personal opinion of someone, you can show your true feelings, good or bad, without the person knowing. This is a good example inner feelings being held back (relating to the physical description above).
"What a pig this human is! Uhg. Just looking at his face covered in crums and some spittle makes me uneasy. Of all the blacksmiths in this land, I had to run into this one. Oh well, best not seem discrimanent, thought the elf."
4. Vocabulary By using a more advanced vocabulary (and hopefully spelling it right), you can lengthen your post further (and hopefully look smarter).
For example, saying that the mans manerisms were extremely odd, even for a gnome, you could say he was an eccentric gnome with grotesque mannerisms.
